The Solution

Our BADFive  logo represents five common
single-use items made from plastic or polystyrene, that we use regularly and for an average of 12 minutes.  We can begin to make an immediate
and huge impact on plastic pollution by just
refusing  these single-use items and choosing to reuse or reduce the use of all plastics in our daily routine.

Refuse Polystyrene and Plastic To-Go containers

When dining in or ordering take out

Refuse the polystyrene and plastic throw awayTo-Go containers!

  • Bring your own reusable containers. You probably already have tupperware, or mason jars or something you can tuck in a tote bag.

  • Ask your wait staff for aluminium foil instead of a clamshell box.

Refuse Plastic Cups, Lids and Straws

One of the biggest offenders worldwide

Some alternatives

  • Bring your own cup. Many coffee shops offer discounts if you get your order in your personal cup.

  • Refuse straws. Make a habit of asking for "No plastic straw, please!" when dining out. You could also bring your own if you want. They make stainless steel, glass, and reuseable bamboo straw sets with cleaners.

Refuse Plastic Water Bottles

Carry a reuseable water bottle

Bring  your reusable bottle - refuse the plastic water bottle!

  • Carry a water bottle with you and refill as needed. We know tap water leaves a lot to be desired. If you don't like the taste, consider Glacier refills at supermarkets, Brita filters, or installing a filtration system in your home.

Refuse Plastic Bags

Carry reuseable bags

ONE reusable bag has a lifespan equal to more than 700 plastic bags!

  • Carry your reuseable bag when you go out. Keep a stash in your car, tuck some small foldable ones in your purse. Reuseable bags aren't just for grocery shopping. Take them to the mall, the hardware store, any where you go shopping!

  • Don't forget to replace produce bags. Many times, you don't actually need them and can instead "Shop Naked". If you do need bags, lightweight mesh bags can be weighed on the scanner without adding to the scale.

  • Take your plastic bags, wraps and plastic film to a grocery store or other retail that accepts this material for recycling.

Refuse Plastic Utensils

Carry reuseable utensils

Refuse plastic cutlery, reuse your own!

  • Carry reuseable utensils in a small zip pouch with you. You can buy sets of bamboo cutlery in it's own pouch. Or, simply take some silverware you already own and wrap up in a cloth napkin.

  • Eat in restaurants that offer metal silverware as opposed to plastic.
